So i try to root my brother's desire hd using advanced ace hack kit. The process goes as follow.

Boot to recovery,install it. Cannot read or no files in update.zip. Try to rename the file to update only with automatic extension as.zip. Boot into recovery. Wipe cache partition.try to install update.(MIUI ROM)SUCCESS!

Is my phone rooted? I can enter the recovery and flash custom rom but it takes forever at htc logo.

From there, boot your PC with the CD in the drive and it should boot into Ubuntu for you (it won't actually install anything). Run the hack kit again using the instructions in the manual. As an aside, it's probably not advisable to rename the ROM zip file update.zip unless it tells you too in the instructions. Also, looking at the first error you got, did you change the USB Cable or the SD Card?
