I'm a big fan of Borderlands, I even set up a home LAN party with my friends, but sadly we're not able to connect via LAN or STEAMWORKS, we've tried 3rd parties like Hamachi or Tunngle but nothing's working. I'm thinking your problem is probably your network, not BL2. Let's start with the basics and go from there. Assuming all computers are Windows 7 / Vista. Go to Start--Computer--Network. I'm gonna bet you can't see the other PC's. Go to Start--Control Panel--Network and Sharing Center, and make sure each PC is set to 'Home Network.'

While in Network and Sharing Center, go to Advanced Sharing Settings. Turn on network discovery and file and print sharing. See if that makes the other PC's show up. They're all in home network and I even have special homegroup for them, I can see all pc's and I can go to shared folders. Other games works well on lan, there is a thing tho, Call of Duty World at War gives the same error when we're trying to connect to a zombie lobby hosted on the main or any other machine over lan.
